It’s been extremely exciting to reveal the book cover for Beyond the Humming Downs to the world.
I love how it’s turned out.
The moment I saw the initial concept of this design by 100 Covers (back in February), I loved the way it encapsulates my story. From the initial horseback meeting of my two main characters, Adehl and Roh, to the vibrant energy humming from the heart of the world, and the glimpse of an ancient city over the horizon.
To be honest, I was amazed they nailed the essence so well from my vague instructions.
Since that early draft, we’ve completely changed the colour palette and fonts, plus tweaked other aspects of the design. Since I was messing with the artist’s original vision, it took a little time to get this right. Iterative changes take time, my friends…
We’ve ended up with something amazing that truly represents this book.

Beyond the Humming Downs
The Vuusah riders of the Humming Downs live in harmony with the land. They nurture the balance of ellir, a storm of energy that resounds from the heart of the world. Only those with the ancient blood of Baljehni are permitted to learn its secrets.
